The International Brotherhood of Police Officers is
Organizing Law Enforcement Officers in Maryland.

The IBPO is organizing officers throughout Maryland right now. Now more than ever you need a political and legal advocate to
protect the rights and benefits that have been already been fought
for in the past and those that you will need in the future.
Job Protection/Job Rights - First and foremost a union gives
you job protections that you could never get on your own. As a
union grows so does its ability to level the playing field of the
workplace. Law enforcement is one of this jobs that "you are
damned if you do and damned if you don't" No one should
mortgage his home or lose his savings to try to keep his or her job.
Exercising your job rights in Maryland is important. Consider
your membership an insurance policy for your employment.
The IBPO employs a staff of full-time labor attorneys whose only job
is to work with and help our members resolve work-related issues.
Our attorneys aren't working on wills, insurance claims, and
dog-bite lawsuits—they're working in labor law to assist you.
Collective Bargaining - The new administration
has promised to sign the bill that will ensure our ability to sit
with our employers and discuss our wages, benefits and working
conditions. It's only a matter of time before this occurs.
The IBPO collectively bargains in many jurisdictions around
the country. They will bring a solid foundation to police
organizations and officers in Maryland.
Political Action - Is the life blood of any successful
organization. Without Political Action nothing can be
accomplished in state or local governments. If you are a law
enforcement officer you work at the whim of your employer and it is
important that your union supports candidates that are pro-working
cop and understand the needs of law enforcement officers not
necessarily just saying they are in support of tougher laws.
The IBPO has a long history of supporting pro law-enforcement and
pro-union candidates.
Legislative Advocacy - Without an advocate at the General
Assembly or your County/City counsel other people influence how
legislation or rules are determined. The IBPO and the Maryland
Coalition of Police and Deputy Sheriffs work together to ensure that
legislation you need is introduced or bills that are harmful to your
jobs and lives are defeated.

Scott Kreher
President, IBPO Local 623
Atlanta, Georgia Police Department
"The IBPO in Atlanta has been able to forge a new working
relationship with politicians, community leaders and the department
command staff to ensure that our members' voices are heard.
Without the support of the IBPO we would not realize this new
respect for a union in the south."

Kevin Morton
President, IBPO Local 453
Fulton County Georgia
Sheriff's Department
"Whatever representation we need, we know we can count on the
IBPO. Whether it's a grievance or a line of duty incident, all
of my members know that help is just a phone call away."

Kevin Burnham
President, IBPO Local 364
Springfield, Massachusetts
Police Department
"When you get to collectively bargain your first contract, its
not just about money -- it's about language that protects you, your
rights, and your future. the IBPO has been negotiating strong
public safety contracts for four decades. They get the job
done."
